From Spotify to Nintendo Music: A Journey of Music App Adoption

2 minute read

I’ve had quite the journey with music apps.

When Spotify was coming up it was amazing. I didn’t have to worry about getting viruses by pirating music. I paid for premium.

Eventually I moved to Apple Music. I copied over my playlists manually.

A year or two ago I started paying for YouTube premium and got YouTube Music for free. I realized YouTube Music could replace Apple Music, so I did.

I can listen to Slowed Reverb covers. I can listen to music that’s illegally uploaded to YouTube. It’s the perfect balance of illegal, poorly moderated, and comprehensive.

I only had YouTube Music because I was paying to not have ads on YouTube.

I’ve been wondering if I could just stop listening to music and watching YouTube in the background, and what would happen to me.

There’s no reason to pay $100+ per year on music when I wouldn’t really spend that much on albums.

So I’m migrating to the final bastion of background music: Nintendo Music.

It’s a surprisingly good app for a new release.

My biggest gripe with Apple Music is I couldn’t access my playlists after I cancelled my subscription.

I hope that I can always come back to YouTube Music if Nintendo Music proves to not be enough.
